Custom Shopify Section – Product Carousel (Rhode-Inspired)
Hamid Sabri / March 18, 2025
Inspired by Rhode’s dynamic product showcase, I developed a custom Shopify section that uses Glide.js to create smooth, engaging product carousels. Built entirely in Liquid, this section allows merchants to effortlessly highlight featured products, ensuring easy updates directly through Shopify’s theme editor.
🔹 Key Highlights:
- Dynamic & Interactive: Seamless, responsive navigation optimized with Glide.js for smooth sliding animations.
- Fully Customizable: Merchants can easily edit products, images, and layout within Shopify’s theme editor—no coding needed.
- Lightweight & Mobile-Friendly: Built to perform flawlessly on all devices, ensuring quick load times and exceptional user experience.
⚠️ But Before You Implement a Carousel...
While carousels can be an effective way to showcase featured products, not all carousels enhance user experience. Here are the key checkpoints before implementing one:
✅ 1. Clear Navigation
Ensure that navigation controls (like arrows and dots) are visible and intuitive. Users should be able to browse products manually and know their position within the carousel.
✅ 2. Responsive & Touch-Friendly
A carousel must work seamlessly on all devices. On mobile, it should support swipe gestures, adjust the number of visible products, and maintain visual clarity.
✅ 3. Balanced Layout & Visual Clarity
Avoid overcrowding the carousel with excessive text or elements. Use high-quality images, concise product titles, clear pricing, and well-placed CTAs to guide user attention.
✅ 4. Manual Control Over Autoplay
Autoplay can be distracting. It’s often best to let users control the carousel’s rotation so they can engage at their own pace.
✅ 5. Optimized Performance
Carousels with large images or excessive animations can slow down page speed. Use optimized image formats, lazy loading, and smooth transitions to ensure fast performance.
🚀 Conclusion
This custom Shopify carousel section is designed for performance, usability, and conversions. By following these best practices, merchants can effectively showcase their featured products without compromising user experience.
